I haven't got the multi function display under the warning lights in my Golf and fancy fitting it if its not too hard, anybody know what part etc I would need and how hard it would be?

you'd need a set of clocks suitable for your car i.e. diesel or petrol! with regards to the clocks, try and get ones from a car the same year as yours as at some point (i think but not sure!) VW changed the immobiliser system so if you have a 1998 car but try and fit clocks from 2003 you may run into difficulties.
Then you need someone with VAG-COM to match the car to the clocks. To do this you need the SCK or SKC code (this can be found on the plastic tag that should be with your keys). If you don't have this then it becomes extremely difficult to get the clocks working.

excellent, I'll be on the hunt for a set of clocks from a 99 Petrol soon then
I might end up having to get VAG COM myself, don't know anyone over here with it yet

You may need the stalk/control too....
as it turns out i have a spare one myself if you do decide to take it on...
