Title: Found the problem but how to solve?
Post by: Laner on 03 November 2006, 11:15
Found the problem with my car idling badly and stallign on take off. after trying lambda and coolent sensors was just looking at the engine debating on attacking it with a spanner to see if violence was the answer and i could hear a faint hissing on closer inspection the spi to inlet manifold gasket (large rubber/plastic part with screws in a triangle pattern) has split at one mounting point and is releasing alot of air.

so i have now found the reason why my lil 1.8 struggles to move anywhere and using silly amounts of fuel. but i can't seem to track down just the gasket? any help wud be greatly welcomed.

thanx,
andy!

thought about that but when the engine is reved the unit lifts off the inlet. so the putty type stuff wud just lift off with it, plus seems abit dodgy as it's likely to get sucked in......... or blown off.

So what you have a bad fixing as well? like a cross-threaded bolt? If so ya need to fix that first!
But the stuff in a tube is a mastic type stuff so wont peel off.

speak to your local VW dealer, I suspect they'll be the only source for this part!
