same thing. et=offset, don't know what, if anything, et stands for though.

ET stands for something in german that basically means offset IIRC

The offset is described by the term ET, which is from the German word 'Einpresstiefe' translated as 'insertion depth'.

ok vheers for the answers. i understand wot ET stands for now
but wot would be the best ET for a mk3 golf if putting on 15", 16", or 17" alloys or with the ET bw the same for any size rim?

Should do ideally, but that might not always fit if you're going wider lower. When you alter the offset you also alter things like scrub radius and you can potentially end up with skittish handling with poor feedback.
