howw can you tell if the car is import or uk on mK4 golf ?  ???

can't see any of those imported or import on v5 ..
But it say New at first registration 22nd march 1999
So it look if it is uk car !

V5 will only tell you if the car was first registered outside of the UK - it won't tell you if its an imported car that was first registered here.

strange that as my mk2 that i just sold said 'imported on' and then a date, mine was deffo an import as wipers wrong way round, why would it say on v5 if it was a uk car???, if clear on log book/v5 should be ok i reckon, not sure will have a word with my mate who works at a jap import garage!! and let yas know ;D

ring vw uk customer services, they should be able to tell you just like that :)

Providing the car was unregistered when imported, the V5 will not shed any light on whether its an import or not.

A car is only assigned an import date when it is bough into the country as a vehicle registered to another country and then re-registered to the UK, which is what I assume is the case for Mr 'Riders Mk2

My best friend recently bought an Astra turbo cabriolet from a company that imports them from Spain. Because it came into the UK un-registered it has been registered as a UK car, even though it is clearly an import.

As far as the V5 is concerned (and any subsequent buyer) his is a UK car, as it was first registered here.

I assume Mr Riders Mk2 V5 stated it was an import because it was imported as a registered car. Had it been unregistered at the time of import, the V5 wouldn't give an imported date.

Definitely ring VW cust services, they will confirm via vin/chassis number.

I have rang the VW customer service (0800 711811)
My golf gti is uk car ! Not imported .
It a simple step of question and the next minute the answer is given .  ;D
