Title: I over filled my 16v
Post by: NewStu on 01 November 2006, 11:36
When doing the oil change i topped back up a little too much. About 5mm on the dipstick. All seemed ok but then when i did the 30 mile trip to work, left it all day then started up on the evening to come home it smoked like a good un for about 1 min. Im guessing its probably just oil thats gone through the breather into the airbox being burnt off. Anyway it only did this two or 3 times and is running smoke free now. Will i be fine and just need to clean my k&N filter?

yeah it wont harm anything, though its worth taking off the block breather pipes and checking they arnt now clogged up with oil :)
Next time, dont overfill it

over filling is just as bad as under filling, they both have their negatives

worse in some cases, the extra oil pressure could blow oil seals leading to all kinds of problems, slightly under is better, thats why the dip-stick has MIN and MAX marks on it, anywhere in between the marks is
