Title: gti idle problems!!!

i have a problem with the idle on my 83 1.8gti....

when i start it up it sits between 1000 and 1500 with no problems but once ive driven for a short time (4-5 mins) it idles at just over 2000...

any ideas???

idle screw loose? I had some idle problems with mine. It turned out the idle screw was loose so any minor vibrations in the engine bay would cause it to loosen. Mine was the opposite though as the revs would drop to 600 and it seemed like the car was missfiring. Hope this helps, Gem  :smiley:

like gem said, idle screw, timing..check all ur water/air pipes...

thanks very much gem and dinx, you were both right, the idle screw was loose... its still really loose but i wound it in a bit and put some electrical tape over the back of it as a temporary fix. would it be ok if i was to put some of that white plumbing type tape on the threads and then screw it in?
