Are all 8v gearboxes the same ??
-
As far as I know I think they're all the "020" type but I'm not certain :undecided:
-
Ratios. No.
Gearbox Codes. No.
Physical design. Yes. (unless it's a synchro or G/Rallye box.)

this will give you a list of all ratio's for all 020 gearboxes by code

Thanks guys
How can i tell then if a box will be the same ?? Found an 8v being broken, same year as mine ... is that enough to go on, or anything else i need to check.

If its an 8v gearbox it will fit straight on and work. Only difference will be the ratios! Best to check it is actually a GTI gearbox, at this age its likly its had a new one in its lifetime. If you crawl underneath and check the codes etched onto the flat area on the bell housing as per:

The one commonly fitted to 8vs is the ACD box :)
