Title: Sunroof exploded on dual-carriageway!
Post by: hogwarden on 29 October 2006, 00:22
1994 (M) GTI 8v ADY:
Driving along the A31 on Thursday morning and my sunroof exploded. Glass everywhere... it went with a real bang! As you can imagine, cut on head and picking glass out of my hair all day:) I can't imagine what caused this... I think I've ruled out an object dropped from above as I'm sure I wasn' t passing under a bridge at the time. Must have been age and some unusual temperature change or buffetting/vibration.

Of course, my insurance co. says that the sunroof comes under the "Accidental damage" excess. Hmmm...

My local VW parts place has quoted £350 just for the glass...  This is bonkers. Any ideas short of shaping a piece of plywood?
