tesco were sh!te as well also most insurers were tellin me that the golf was now group 17 instead of 16!!!
-
group 17 for 8v too?
-
as far as i know 8v is group 14 standard
-
5dr is 13 and 3dr is 14.
the 3dr is seen as 'more sporty' to the 'family' 5dr in the insures eyes.
-
im 25 with seven f**king points for no insurance
three years ncb and live in somerset
i pay ?541 tpft
im sure my 8v is group 14
-
31yrs old, full no claims, pay ?350 a yr fully comp with Direct Line based on 10,000pa. Thats for a 5dr 8v with cat2 immob ;D Been with them for 7yrs now and no matter what car I have driven they have been the cheapest by the preverbial country mile every time
-
Hi, I work for an insurance broker called Barry Grainger Ltd, I don't know if we can help but I can have a look if you give the office a call on (01892) 542736 My name is Tom. Otherwise the only people that I have found that seem to quote quite well are H.I.C, they advertise in all the VW magazines. ;)
-
I'm a bit older and have more no claims. But I tend to find as a relatively young driver of fast cars in London I get best quotes from Bell Direct and Sterling (part of Adrian Flux group). Worth a try...
-
36, full no claims, unlimited mileage etc for ?202 tpft with Direct Line. I know loads of people who have had trouble with HIC, myself included. They may quote cheap (when you finally get through th them!!!!) but they're a git for paying out. They insured me once and then 3 months later said they'd under quoted and I owed them ?300 :o Told them to sing for it and changed to Direct Line.
OP
-
lol, they under quote yet expect you to pay. Jokers.
Thanks all I will look into the options given :)
-
try www.admiral.com (0800 600 800) most helpful thats who im with . im 30 got full no claims driving a 1989 16v and paying about ?270 a year.
-

I paid just over ?2000 on my 8v at 17. Then again i knew a few dodgy people who sorted me out.
But the 1.3 shouldnt be ?2500! :o
-
I'm a girl and coz we're better drivers my insurance is a lot cheaper :D

5dr is 13 and 3dr is 14.
the 3dr is seen as 'more sporty' to the 'family' 5dr in the insures eyes.
I thought I'd seen that both the 5DR and 3DR were the same insurance group that being 13.
-
quotes of 800+ wot u paying amonth??? looking at these quotes i may be able to afford a gti sooner than i thought.
-
www.screentrade.co.uk are worth a look - got fully comp on an '88 8v, protected no claims (got over 5 years), for ?329.
31 year old with 6 points (SP30 and SP50).
Or try your local broker and haggle - most of them get a fairly hefty commision, so the first price isn't always the last...
If you ring up one of the direct (Norwich Union, Direct Line, etc.) insurers then they'll normally drop 10% without any real hassle.
It's arisk based commodity they're selling and I remeber not seeing the logic in paying as much (every year) to insure the car as it's worth, but it's the destruction you might cause to other's which is the big risk. Blame all those no-win no-fee lot for your rising premiums.
-
elephant.co.uk
they will beat anyone and great service, they knocked ?222 off my direct line quote.
-
Yeah Im with Elephant also, and it was by far the cheapest quote I could get.
Im 23 now, but always been on my parents insurance until last year, so only 1 years no claims.
Ive told them I do 3500miles P/A and that my car has no mods, also, cat 2 and tracker which they didnt count!!!
I paid ?750 for 10 month bonus accelerator, then my renewal turned out as ?750 for the year with the one years no claims, tpft.
-
Try admiral im 22 live in peterborough area no, no claims 3 points with imobiliser fitted and park on the road I pay 600 quid tpft so if its that sort of price for me they should give you a smashing deal. (who uses the word smashing any more?!)
-
Who wants to live in Brum?? Is it fast becoming car nickability capital of UK??
Just did rough quote on ESure, though will never use them again. (Am with them now on Passatt-lots of aggro!!). Quoted me ?815 fully comp, 4yrs NC, up to 10k P/A, Driveway.
Am 31!! Bloody daylight robbery!!

I just insured my mk2 GTi 8v for ?250 with HIC. I'm 24 years old and have been driving for 7 years. 4 years no clams and I limited my mileage two 2000 a year that got to be cheap. (sorry if someone has already mentioned HIC but I haven?t read all the threads ::))
-

-
Yea but I have a mk1 Golf GTI, mk2 Golf, GTI mk3 CL (looking to sell for ?800 if anyone is interested) MK4 TDI 130 PS and a 405 MI 16. I do most my mileage on the MI so I don't need much mileage on the others but I love Golf?s so can?t part with them.
-
Reading some of your premiums really hurts!
I just renewed mine (starts 2 feb) for my Cab (group 16)- ?249, fully comp, protected no claims, and I have 6 points for speeding less than a year ago.......I knew this "getting old" lark was of some use ;D

I only just picked up the mk2 Golf and mk4 about 3 months ago, but I have had the mk1 & 3 for years now. If you look in the parts for sale you will see why I bought the mk2 golf (G60 ORB) ;D ;D
-
