i own a mk2 8v gti, (digifant) and there looks like a oil leak coming from the rocker cover gasket and down towards the spark plugs (if u know which part i mean). So is this a common problem i.e serious??
Anything i should do myself or just take to a garage to put right?
Cheers for any info, much appreciated.

Change the rocker cover gasket, and torque them up right, they don't torque to much.

Very simple change. 10mm socket, the kit from VAG (don't get the GSF one) and make sure you change the studs as well.
Took me about 45 mins all in, and I'm no speedy worker!
And yes, very common!

how does a rocker cover gasket usually cost? any reason why my one needs replaced
-
about £6, and yes, it's made of rubber, oil + rubber = the rubber breaks down over time. Nothing to worry about.

cool thanks slick

it may have a rubber gasket already, check the studs. If they have a shoulder they are for the older cork gasket and shoulf be changed, if not they are for the new rubber type and you can leave em alone.
Either way, buy the repair kit with the studs included from VW, as its cheaper than buying the gasket on its own
