Someone on another posting mentioned VAG-COM. I just wondered if anyone has it, as it looks like you can buy the required cables/connectors easily and get the shareware software required to run on a PC.
Obviously it could be handy, but I wondered if its worth the hassle?

I've only got the shareware version but its a useful tool for checking fault codes etc.
check out www.ross-tech.com for further info. You can get the leads and full software from them for around £200.
If you have to take your car to the dealers they'll charge you a minimum of £70 to hook it up. Go 4 times and you just as well buy VAG-COM!
I've used the shareware to read fault codes and also test my MAF - you can do real-time data logging; it measures things like coolant temp, air flow, RPM etc.

I looked at the site and I noticed you could download the program.... And buy the cabkes later....
But there are two options.
USB or HEX????????
The car is a 2006 Golf GTI in specific. What system does it use?To connect tot eh pc??
Pls help
THX

I think USB is fine; HEX is more for garage owners etc.
Best thing to do is to drop them and email and they should be able to advise you
It uses a cable from the USB on your PC to the serial port in the car
