Title: poor starting on a 1.8 vento

My friend has a 93 vento 1.8 and when cold it struggle's to start.i am currently trying to locate where my fault code reader can be plugged in (i have also asked this in the garage section)..Does anybody have any idea's where the fault code reader plug is and what are the common fault's with these engine's for poor starting???

1st thing I would replace is the ecu temp sender, I'm not 100% sure but on a 1.8 SPI engine I believe its a blue 2 pin one, just like the MK2 GTI. It may have a black 4 pin jobber like on the MK3 GTI though.  Either way, buy it from VW though, pattern ones are rubbish.
