I noticed today in the Golf options price list that if you add any of the CD changer options, you also get 10 speakers instead of 8. As I went for the Ipod link I'm only going to be getting 8, but does anyone know where the extra 2 speakers sit and if they make any difference at all?
-
lol, i'm not even going to get started on any sound upgrade deals?!?!?! :undecided:
experiance has taught me that I WILL NEVER go for any VW sound upgrade again!!! Save the money

I wasn't meaning the soundpack, simply the number of speakers?
-
lol, i should surf when i've had a wee drinky!
i think the soundpack comes with the same ten speakers, just with a stronger amp.
there's 3 in each of the front doors and 2 each side in the back. i'm now wondering if the rattle is caused by the addition of an extra speaker in the front door cards?
-
As Matt says - 10 speakers, three in the front doors and two in the rear/quarter panels. I've got the iPod on my MY2007 Gti and I am impressed with the overall sound quality of the unit/speakers. You can control the first 5 playlists in the iPod with the head unit dash controls or via the MFSW if you have selected that as an option (recommended). No track info is displayed in the head unit, but the playlists are shown as CD 1 - 5 in the music source field, or CD 6 if you wish to play all tracks in the iPod (system will play up to 99 tracks in this mode).

Thanks Cass - the brochure implies you should only have 8 speakers unless you upgrade to the RCD 500 radio which includes a cd changer. Seemed strange to me but you have the full 10 with the ipod link only? Or do you have a vw cd changer also? I'm put off the MFSW by the price. Seems a lot to adjust the volume every now and then.

my gti has the 10 speaker system, the two xtra speakers in the front DONT go in the doors directly, they sit in the side mirror black triangular bits!!, i think when you crank up the sound it gets better the loader it is, well mine sounds great i think, agreed the radio sounds tiny when quiet but turn it up and mine doesnt distort in the slightest AND THE DOORS DONT RATTLE EITHER!. i have the 6 cd changer installed and not the ipod. hope this helps

I live in South Africa
I got the equivelant of the sound pack.
Specs?
6 CD Changer
Ipod adapter in dash
And I have 10 speakers..... But honestly dont get the ipod adapter. Sounds like shi%t compared to CD and Radio....
Good luck

Surely the quality of the ipod sound depends on the quality of the tracks you put on it?
-
Hey
I figured that and experimented a bit. Copied the same song twice. Once on low quailty and once on the highest quility I could. Made no real differance. High quility (Excuse spelling) was just as bad.
Still sounded tinny with no real volume. And thats factory fitted....... I looking for a hack of some kind I can install on the Ipod to better the sound... Still looking tho :undecided:

Has anyone else experienced poor quality on this setup?

Hey 08micsta, have you tried altering the equalisation settings on your iPod itself?
Not ideal, I know, having to keep juggling settings when changing between car and headphones, but when I had a fiddle with mine (no carry on-esque comments please) I found that I could get the rear view mirror rattling with ease.
Try moving to a more bass-heavy equalisation setting in your iPod and you should be ok.....
-
Pls dont call me a Boff but I already thought of that..... :smug:
The settings are on Bass Booster at the moment and it does sound better. But it still not as good as what the sound system is capable of.
I havnt tried this yet but does the Sound system pick up a manual preset equalizer? Instead of using only Bass Boost for all the songs. Will it pick up if I make a personal manual equalizer setting? for each song?
Hopefully you understand what I saying.... What Ipod you using?

Hi fi and music quality are very much subjective issues and a car is not the best medium for quality sound. I ordered my GTI with the DVD Sat Nav and iPod connection in the centre armrest (replacing the CD changer). The sound quality is OK for me and I am sure it has just the standard speaker set up. I have noticed some buzzing on one track (Jethro Tull !!!), but this seems to be down to the digital data transfer from my PC to the iPod and not related to the unit in the car. I'm an old git (still stuck on 1970's rock), so I don't play it with too much volume , having said that, I'm still well satisfied with the overall sound and performance.
