hi
i am looking to colour code the black plastic trim which runs along side the mk4.(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gavin.watson30/VW/Zs_VWgolf_RevB_Side.jpg) (the picture is not of my car)
I.e. can i take them off and spray them?
can i buy new trim in the same colour?
Thanks

they are held on with mastic (like a glue) and plastic clips so when pulled off the clips will break usually if you spray it get a decent plastic primer if you dont the paint will fall off

i have done this mod and i can tell u its a pain in the asssssss
1) you have to buy a whole new set of door mouldings and bumper because the black ones are bobbly and it will be too much labout intensive to smooth them and primer then, so buy then from vw u can get them already smooth and primered for around 200 the whole set
2)the front bumper and rear bumber just clip out
3) door mouldings need yanking off they get deformed in the process u then need to get the sticky crap off which is a ball acher u can do this easier using wd40 to get the sticky stains off and then use methodalated spirit to wipe the wd40 off so its dry,
4) get ure bits and bobs sprayed and they coem on a self sticky peel back strip u use the holes in the door to line the thing up.
5) always useful to re primer the mouldings as factory are crap.
6) door handles are headache too u must unscrew the 20mm bolt using a torx it fits trust me even though its a star bolt unwind slightly and then use a flat headed screwdirver to take the handles off becareful not to unwind too much or else its a 4 hr job strippign the door down.
i was lucky i got the door handles and front and back bumber bits off a car in the scrappy which was in pearl blue, looks mint now, costs a fair bit to do properly though. worth it imo.
good luck will post pics,

You'd problably be looking at just less than £300 for the bumpers doing. I used to work in a dealer a few years back and we used to charge that.
