Title: Will these alloys fit?
Post by: nzgti on 22 October 2006, 02:43
Hey I know Ive already got a post up with this question and its been answered but I thought Id be a bit more specific just to make sure they do fit b4 I buy anything. Will these fit my mk3 gti? 18" BBS 5 x 120 stud patern 8" Wide. Also how low could I drop my Mk3 on these? And what tyres should I get for them?

The stud pattern for mk3 gti is 5x100 so unless you get some adaptor's they will not bolt on...and With these fitted I am guessing they would rub some ware with this width on 18's and tyres would need to be 215/35-18 and dropping it would be guess work but about 30mm would be my max as 18's will make the ride hard anyway

my golf mk3 is lowered 40mm on 18s and they dont really rub (unless i go over humps a bit quickly)...but if you get adapters wont they knacker the bearings???

What is the offset of the wheels as that will be your most important issue.

Minimum width on adapters will be 20mm, so you have to take 20mm off the et of the actual wheel to know what et you will be running.

ie: if the bmw wheels are et 34 .. 20mm adapters .. so you are running 8s with an actual et of 14

oh and adapters shouldl not ruin the hubs

really??? i thought that the bearings would go because there is more pressure applied...my bad

the off sets 29 mm i think, will that work?

so you are looking at an offset of 9 with 8 inch wide wheels - major arch work required!!!

My answer to the original question  - NO!

There are plenty of alloys for sale around on ebay etc. go find some 17 x 7's or at a pinch 17 x 8's
with the correct PCD and offset!

I just found sum bbs alloys with a 5 x 114.33 stud pattern, will that fit my 5 x 100 pattern?

Again it would be wheel adaptor's to go from 5x100 to 5x114.33 (not sure what car has this size ??)
