Post by: golfman23 on 08 January 2004, 23:38
hi guys and gals i just purchased a mk4 gti turbo its a 1.8 version 150 bhp,and i love driving it.I was parked up today and had my enigne running whilst chattin to my freind in the car and i herd a noise which came and suddenly went after every 5 mins or so it comes and goes, sounds abit  like gears crunching, everythign else seems to be fine and drives beautifully shud i be worried ???

p.s the noise also makes the lights dim a little and similar noise also happens when i turn the key to start car everytime

air con system, will notice o n idle as unit is using the electric fan more as the car is not moving. peugeots are a lot noisier than vw's, my mates new 307cc sounds like atractor when the air con clicks on

Might be worth checking the alternator and associated pulley.
