Can anyone tell me what the distributor cap is connected to? Been having a few minor issues and went to change the rotor arm only to find that the metal spinning jobby has ballsed iteslf on the wiring/other plastic stuff in there. I havent a clue what it is... was thinking dizzy cap but I cannot find a dizzy cap in the parts manuals...
If you know what it is can you let me know where I can get one/part no.
Many many thanks!

The metal disk with the slots in it has caught wiring underneath it  . The metal disk appears to have bent (probably due to me hoking the rotar arm out) and then caught up on the internals when it was spinning when i started the car. Feel like such a b'bag right now...
Full distributor required then?
Heres the culprit:

ah so you have severed the hall sender wiring!
due to the amount of damage your better off getting a new one. hall senders can be replaced but the damage on the metal disk is too much
get a Bosch one outta Euro carparts and ask for your man Davey - tell him your part of NI clubgti for discount!
for future ref.... to get the rotor arm off you just crack the plastic with a pair of pliars!!

Cheers mate, been a great help. will call him now. GSF have none in stock atm

Got the new distributor fitted, came with a new arm & cap so no dismantling required (thank fook), though I had to hand my old one in for the bosch exchange service. After a bit of fiddling and changing the mounting position of the distributor I got it running, also changed the sparks, flushed the engine & got some fully synthetic oil in, changed the oil & fuel filters, reinstalled the fuel cut off valve & for good measure ordered a K&N panel
now running 10 times better than before...
Thanks for your help lad... i owe you a pint
