Title: side mounted bucket seats
Post by: matt16v on 17 October 2006, 13:17
hi guys

i want to put a set of recaro or cobra buckets in my car but i want proper racing fixed back bucket seats as opposed to recliners ideally however they are side mounted and the only way that i know of mounting seats of this type is to weld rails across the passenger footwell as support beams to bolt the side mounts into. does anyone know of any other ways of mounting them?

i know there definitely are other ways but im not sure what they are. if anyone has fixed back seats please let me no how u mounted them!

cheers

I've been looking at a number of fixed back seats and the majority of manufacturers like Cobra, Corbeau and Sparco etc do a number of base mount or side mount fixed back seats.  I'm currently looking at the either a Corbeau or Cobra Monaco S which are both base mounts.  The Monaco S costs around £120 plus another £50 odd quid for a Golf base mount.

My advise, go to Demon Tweeks website and place an order for both the Motorsport and Road Tuning Catalogues (both are free with free delivery).  You'll find a good selection of seats with dimensions and details of which are base or side mount.

I've noticed all the really expensive ones have side mounts.  If you go for a Side mount you'll need to fabricate a base made from tubular steel etc and then mount the seat to it.

The problem I've got is that before I order a seat I want to try it out, and there's no where near where I live where I can try the seat for fit before I go ahead and order it.

i no the problem oh so well about tryin them first as im in a similar boat, i nknow the corbeau revolution is a lovely comfortable seat as we have one in the works' lupo track car but it is side mounted and like you said had to be mounted on tubular box sections welded into the footwell. the joys! lol

Gambit, that's the link I sent to Matt.  It's food for thought for all of us that are looking at fitting Bucket seats, especially those with deep enough pockets for side mounted seats.

Thought I'd stick the image here so everyone else could see what they look like.
