Title: Flashing oil light & poor mpg reading on mfa ?
Post by: declang on 17 October 2006, 10:52
Hi,
I have a flashing oil light on my 1.8 gti.
I do seem to have good oil pressure & oil level, and have done about 500 miles or so.

I'm told it is the sensor, so I bought a vw one, and replaced the sensor on the right side of the head.
It still flashing :(

I spotted another sensor on the oil cooler piece just above the oil filter. I need to change this as well, or is this the oil temperature for the mfa (its reading OK) ?

Am I on the right track, or should I be testing for voltage at the sensors first to rule out electrical gremlins ?

Is this a common "vw sensors" gremlin ?

While I'm posting .. My MFA shows me around 15mpg, but I'm getting more like 28-30mpg. any quick fixes for this, or how do I go about tracking it down .. what sensors dows it use .. Mabye vacuam ?

Thanks for any pointers .. still waiting for my trusty haynes manual to arrive !

The one on the oil filter housing is more likly to be causing the warning light to flash, so I'd replace that one first.  If that stilldoesn't help, either your clocks are faulty, or you really do have low oil pressure!
Do you hear a warning buzzer?

No, no warning buzzer. Juts the flashing light. It doesn't flash at idle, only at over 1500 rpm or so.

I'll have to get that sensor and see if it helps.

Cheers.

yeah sounds like a sensor or wiring fault then :)
