Title: Hi!
Post by: RSP on 15 October 2006, 23:26
Hi,
my names mike, 19 from Birmingham. I've just joined the forum and I'm looking to buy a Mk1 gti in the near future.

I'm really into classic minis(got 3 of them), i know quite a bit about them, but not much about golfs, What i wanted to know was, just what sort of things i should look for when buying a Mk1 and around how much i should be looking to spend for a good one?

Thanks
Mike

Hi matey , ive had more than my fair share of classic minis myself , still regret sellin my cooper sport 500 (in tahiti) and my mk1 mini too ,

ive got myself a mk1 gti id say check the wings , bootfloor , inner wings , then there is crash damage , mines in the project section so have a look there are plenty of pics of rusty parts , as for how much to pay , ive no idea mine was cheap as chips ,

 welcome to the site

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah, the cooper sport 500 is a very nice car, a friend of mine has one. Myself ive got a 1990 racing green le (in my sig) and im also doing a complete restoration on a 1990 cooper RSP with a 1330 engine in it.

I was looking at the golf as an everyday car, aswell as being a classic.

yeah, the zcars kits are nice but far too expensive for me to think about  but i am planning on a 2ltr Vaxuhall XE for the green 1.

been there done that got the T shirt , a 1966 cooper had me nearly in tears a number of times the amount of welding i did on it

my golf is alot more solid for a 23 yo car

yeah im probably going to have to replace nearly every panel, sometimes i wonder why i bought it.

Thats why i decided one the golf, something different and  hopefully i will be able to get a pretty solid one.

They cant be as bad for rust as minis, can they?
