Title: where can i get one spark plug lead??
Post by: kniterider on 15 October 2006, 22:31
hmmm as above... had an intermitant misfire on the vr6 for a while now.... after getting it started after its fuel relay problem it was a bit lumpy and some 'cracking' noises from under the bonnet, it was gettin dark and i could see the far laft cylinder lead on the fron bank arcing to the head so theres my problem.....

years ago you could go into motor factors and buy leads seperatley to match the length of the one you wished to replace... not the case now.. sets or nothing... £ 30 ish for a cheap set for the vr6 from euro parts, but im reluctant to spend a penny on my £510 ebay bargin.. so a set of leads aint happening... anyone know where i can get a 3ft lead with a 90 degree cap fit on one end and a vw plug fit on the other....????

cheers......

yes im waiting for the tight get comments.... lol... but running this vr6 is strictly budget... im running a gsxr600 motorbike, a clio sport, a bmx and a skateboard along with my other money munching things so one lead is all i need....

Cheapo leads are a pain in the arse to remove, since they don't have the little lugs that the special tool clips onto - When I replaced all my plugs a few months back I discovered a previous owner had got el-cheapo replacements...  I ended up pulling the crimp off the end of one lead because of it, so I got a replacement set.

I can't remember which lead it was I broke, I think it was either the far-left front or far-left rear, but I think there was enough slack in perhaps 3 of the leads to reach the cylinder you're talking about.  I could send you my old leads if you like - I wasn't having misfiring problems, I was just replacing all the plugs as part of the first service I did on the beast.  I think I've still got them in the shed somewhere.

You can have 'em for the price of postage, or come pick 'em up or something.  I'm in Bath, down in the south-west.  PM me if you like.

I do warn you that they are a pain in the arse to remove (although I think the one you're after is the easiest of the lot, tbh)  The new ones I got are much better.
