Hey, can someone who knows more about cars than this idiot who still hasn't purchased his haynes manual, please let me know the following. i need to add more antifreeze coolant to the system to get a thicker ratio for the winter, however the expansion tank is already full!! is there a bleed valve or something? where is the best place to drain the system?
also, my abs light stays on... does this def mean there is problem with the abs or could it just be a dodgy electric thing. the brakes themselves feel fine.

Just done my coolant the other day and i found that there is no bleed vavle. i just un clipped the bottom hose good luck

More than likley it'll be one of your ABS sensors that is dead. Put it onto VAG com to find out which wheel sensor is playing up, then fix the correct one and clear the code (with VAG com) and your ABS light will go out!

You can buy a code reader from ebay or similar that can read and delete the codes. Mine has saved me much mular in the last 8 months. It will tell you which part of the system is faulty. In my case it was just a dirty sensor at the rear. I cleaned it and cleared the fault code and the system started working again  Fault codes will be logged on every system if the battery has been disconnected at any time and will need clearing so id recommend buying a code reader to everyone with a mk3 cos they save lots of time and money IMHO.

What make code reader do you have like is there any you should say away from and how much are they ?
-
I have a Geniscan, and it is spot on, unless you have a pre '95 car and it may not read the ABS ecu. I paid about £18 for it and £6.00 postage from the US.

I agree a code reader is money well spent .
-
Ok so will you be able to tell me the web site where you got it from thanks. There is a GENISCAN GS400on ebay but it £75 is that too much to pay for one ?
-
I bought a lead from ebay and got some software from the internet
-
Have you VAG com? can you read early OBDI ports?
-
Hi mate. I found one for you  This is where i bought mine from though im sure it was a little cheaper when i bought mine.

They also sell other makes but they are more exspensive and the geniscan does the job perfectly anyway.

Cheers for that. I need a code reader that does the early 4 pin port, any ideas?
Its for an Audi 100 Quattro 2.8 v6 12v.

I think you can get adapters from the 16 pin plug on the end of the code readers to acommodate other plugs/sockets. Try e mailing these guys http://stores.ebay.co.uk/alpha-bid. I got my code reader from them!
Is this what you are after http://search.stores.ebay.com/alpha-bid_2x2_W0QQfcdZ2QQfciZQ2d1QQfclZ3QQfromZR10QQfsnZalphaQ2dbidQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsaselZ53254725QQsofpZ0
Hope this helps!
