Title: Coolant - mk3 2.0 16v
Post by: cris on 15 October 2006, 11:44: Hey, can someone who knows more about cars than this idiot who still hasn't purchased his haynes manual, please let me know the following. i need to add more antifreeze coolant to the system to get a thicker ratio for the winter, however the expansion tank is already full!! is there a bleed valve or something? where is the best place to drain the system?

also, my abs light stays on... does this def mean there is problem with the abs or could it just be a dodgy electric thing. the brakes themselves feel fine.

Post by: spankyVR6 on 16 October 2006, 17:00: More than likley it'll be one of your ABS sensors that is dead. Put it onto VAG com to find out which wheel sensor is playing up, then fix the correct one and clear the code (with VAG com) and your ABS light will go out!

Post by: vwagain on 17 October 2006, 00:52: You can buy a code reader from ebay or similar that can read and delete the codes. Mine has saved me much mular in the last 8 months. It will tell you which part of the system is faulty. In my case it was just a dirty sensor at the rear. I cleaned it and cleared the fault code and the system started working again :smiley: Fault codes will be logged on every system if the battery has been disconnected at any time and will need clearing so id recommend buying a code reader to everyone with a mk3 cos they save lots of time and money IMHO.

Post by: spankyVR6 on 17 October 2006, 16:58: I have a Geniscan, and it is spot on, unless you have a pre '95 car and it may not read the ABS ecu. I paid about Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£18 for it and Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£6.00 postage from the US. :wink:
