I think this is one for the doc.I currently have a GTI DSG and would like to buy an R32.Without sounding like too much of a minge bag i wonder what the 'real world' difference is on the fuel economy?I do a round trip of 50 miles every day and dont fancy massive fuel bills.Anyone able to offer some stats to help me out?Cheers in anticipation,Noj66. :smiley:

3mpg difference!
-
Cheers,feel like a c*nt now!
-
Why m8?
Please, feel free to ask as many questions as you like :wink:
-
Think i'll go for it,its got the big recaros,looks the business.Not sure i'll like the manual after driving the DSG for 12 months though.Cheers for the offer,i'll be sure to pick your brains if any techy stuff stumps me,sounds like you know your stuff!

3 mpg difference ??? is this true. I have been driving the GTI for 18 months now and average 29mpg. What would I get in a R32 (just a rough idea please :rolleyes: I also am dithering about a R32 or Anniversary GTI !!!!!! :undecided: Thanks
-
Yep,doesn't ring true does it Hector.I average 25mpg in my GTI,with a worst of 17 and a best of 32 on a long trip to Scotland.Having said that,it's so much more fun than the GT TDI140 before it,which in itself was a good car.Still cant get an R32 out of my head though,every time i see one i'm green with envy! :sick:
-
17mpg Wow :shocked:
I too had a GT Tdi 140, and moved directly to the R32. Was prepared for an increase in my fuel spend ..... But the cost of petrol has come down and the R32 returning, acording to the onboard computer and average of 28.9 (33 on motorway). so all in all not a huge difference .....
-
On average I get 28mpg about town but on motorway trips as much as :smiley: 41mpg :smiley: but on average around 36mpg.
I personally think i would go for the r32 next time but i do not like the front bumper, a gti front and r32 back end would be perfect
-
One problem ive noticed is, the onboard computer doesnt really give you an indication of your mpg, it gives you "the current journeys mpg which is fine but doesnt give you the average for the fuel that youve burnt on other trips from the same tankfull. Ive had new peugeots prior to "seeing the light" with VW, and the trip computer gives you choice of , current , average, and doesnt reset to zero everytime you turn off the ignition in the gti!. i kinda think our gtis are burning more then we think....
-
Just a foot note, someone was saying ref fuel econamy of the r32, is far less then the GTI, in town expect to get sub 20 miles to the gallon, if works out about 6 miles to the gallon in EACH situation of driving areas, sub 20 town, combined 29 etc, WILL VARY IF YOU LIVE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE BLA BLA BLA
-
Not a R32 but they share the same engine......
The misses figures........
A3 3.2 Q drive and DSG - average over 47K miles and 2 years = 25mpg.
best = 30.5mpg from a tank.
worst = 17mpg from a tank.
Golf Gti DSG - average over 7k miles and 5 months = 29mpg.
best = 35.5mpg from a tank. my best is 33mpg.
worst = 20mpg from a tank.

:grin:wrong ya mong, the audi 3.2 is not fsi / direct injection
-
He's correct, the Audi A3 3.2 has the engine and EDC16 ECU from the MK4 golf R32 - Slighlty tweaked since it was used in the R32 but not the same as the new R32, that uses a far more complex ECU and direct injection.
And because of this the fuel economy and power delivery will differ. :wink:

You're great value for money and thanks for the BRAVE insults! I never knew they had the internet at the young offenders home?!?! :kiss:
So let me get this right?!?!
The A3 engine has never been shared with a R32?
I never mentioned whether i was talking about MK4 or MK5 R32 did I?
Then Mr Doc, probably your brother says the A3 has a MK4 golf R32 ECU and engine?
Now there's a shock!
Wow you have a great attitude! You've seven posts and not one of them says 'hello i'm golfr36ladyboy'? So i can pressume you are either a troll for another user or a spoilt teenager bored of lax power forums?!? I guess you're a troll for another user, you're attitude seems familiar to me and IP addressing very similar.
BOT! I've found the GTi fuel economy to be increasing with mileage and also running on Vmax seems to help......... :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

What's VMax?
Been up to Scotland from Manchester today in my manual GTI. On the way up set the cruise control to 70mph (as per satnav, not speedo) and got 37.9mpg. On the way back, did most of the trip with the cruise set slightly higher :wink: apart from torrential rain in Lancashire and got 29.7mpg
-
37.9!!!!!!!! quality work fella! who needs a diesel?!?!? :laugh:
Vmax is the new Shell super unleaded, the golf seems to perform really well with it. it's worth a tank just to check...... Vmax should improve on your 37.9.......
just a note, but my 320D BMW only ever managed 36 in my hands and that was a diesel LOL :shocked:
-
my gt tdi 170 averages about 52mpg at a steady 70mph - go up to 80 and its around 48mpg. normal roads is 43ish - tear the ar*e out of it and it drops to 37ish

Do you not mean Shell VPower? That's what I use. And in my Audi A4 1.9TDI - same trip at 70 would get me 49mpg, or at a bit faster :wink: 44mpg
