I'm getting close to paint on my 16v, I have now primed all the bolt on panels, and will be starting on the shell towards the end of next week... just one detail I cant decide on is whether or not to paint the tailgate plinth (covers No plate lamps) paint is Jade LN6V.. anyone done it, then regretted it! Other than 35mm drop, and G60 steels, the car will be standard.. your thoughts appreciated

if your going for an OEM look leaving it black might be best but i think either would look cool. or just get a second one to swap if you feel like it.
-
i think like joe if your keeping it fairly standard Id leave it black. on a lightish colour like jade the black lines really help to break up the colour and add definition to it. You done want it to end up lookin like a big jade blob now do ya!
Get us some pics when its done aswell!
-
depends maybe if you can pic a cheap one up , paint one n leave the other
-
I think I'll probably end up leaving it black, origionality really does appeal. same goes for the extra aerial hole in the n/s front wing.. i'm going to leave it as is.. its a shame that VW didnt bother to use wings that were already in production for the replacement market, when they changed over to Bee sting aerials.........

Get it painted mate, it cleans up the rear no end. My mate got his done on his jade green and it looks so much better! Plus I doubt they'll charge much more if anything to spray one for you, and if you don't like it theres millions of black ones to be had from any decent scrappy :)

Thanks for that, the one on my car is in mint condition (textureing still looks perfect) so if I paint one, it'll be a 2nd hand one.. painting the car myself, so not really worried about cost, would be good though, getting paid to paint my own car..Hmmm

Here ya go, looks so much better when colour coded, I think all mk2s need it done if they are still black plastic! It distracts you otherwise. Spoiler should always be left unpainted though!
I'll have a deplinthed tailgate soon once i've run the cabling for my bootpopper and got it hooked up to my Clifford alarm

see this is where your own opinion comes into it. I would prefer that if it was black. Think the horizontal black lines accross the boot, bumper etc help make it look wider and add definition to the tailgate.
Only you will know what you prefer, it is your car, you've got to drive it not us!

You know, I like the look of that...Doh! :undecided: Dont you think that Jade is an underated colour by the way.. I also like the subtle look of your rear pipes, sort of what Im after.. what are they?

Yep I love Jade Green when it's polished up like in my photos, looks awesome
You don't want to see the state of mine at the moment
The exhaust is a Milltek which pretty much are identical to standard but stainless steel and slightly larger tailpipes, quite pricey though.
The only thing left to do now on mine exterior wise is to get the new tailgate on, fit my Weitec coilovers when they arrive and replace my indicators and repeaters for smoked items
-
Think if it werer mine Id be looking out for some small euro chrome bumpers, once its been slammed to the floor and below it will look superb!

I am sort of thinking about changing the wheels to Porsche Fuchs www.californiacars.com/store/images/7s_8s4.JPG just like these, only with the black part painted jade, but before that happens I need to know more about the implications regarding the hubs and fitting etc, I know it can be done as I saw a conversion in the states some years ago, It looked awesome!

Yeah, would need to do a hub conversion to 5x112 i think but they are lovely wheels. Nice Idea doing them in jade too, could look class.
So what have you decided? arre you painting it or leaving it?

just so happens i just got a spare smothed plinth you can have, will save you having to rub the texture down :)
-
RJ.. thanks for that, might just take you up on that offer.. my garage at home is bursting with parts at the moment  so I'll hold fire just for now. I'm looking at paint over the Xmas break, so I wont be needing it till mid Dec... LMK how much you want for it, and we'll sort something out
Thanks
