got sick of tootling about so I've just come back from giving the valver a quick blast.
after about 4k revs it takes off was doing nearly 70 in 2nd with still someway to go before red line!
it is fecking quick alright, but it is still smoking a bit, so won't be flooring it anymore - for at least another couple hundred miles or so anyway!
going for a compression test in morning just to make sure everything as it should be, I'm looking for about 190psi I beleive after searching the forum last night. let me know otherwise!
Hopefully it will be good news - please let the rings be OK!!! :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:

good news! Compression is good (185psi) across all four cylinders only varies by 2 psi. didn't increase either with the wet test.
bad news is stem seals must be fooked, so going to have to change them. fortunately garage has the air thingy so I don't have to take the head off!
must have been poor quality seals to start with, so going for VW ones this time.

a 16v box will only do 62mph in 2nd gear on 15's unless you raised the limiter to +8k rpm!

where the stem seals not replaced when you got the head job done?
i know what your saying about tootling about - its a head wrecker trying to be sensible!!

maybe exagerating a bit then
but it very rapid at the top end, it even tried a little wheel spin - it was as if I'd just had a shot of nitrous!
Just had a custom power rohr made to - we'll see what thats like in the morning!!
Pics of it to follow
