Title: brake trouble

I've just noticed while driving with the window down that my Mk3 has an intermittent high pitched sqeak. Any ideas of what it could be?

Is it while your driving, stopped or constantly. It could be a fan belt looseor another belt loose for that matter. I know that my fan belt is slightly loose but i only get a squeak when i start it up.

I have the same, its my front brakes.  It only happens at slow speeds, and lifting the handbrake doesn't stop it, but touching the brake pedal makes it stop :)

Its while im driving - I was doing under 30mph when I noticed it - so its probably the brakes like rubjonny. Is there anything that can be done or is it just one of those things?

you could try giving the front brakes a good service, new pads, clean up and copper grease the moving parts :)

just had it in the garage this morning so I got them to check the brakes out, they cleaned them up and regreased etc. n said that the squeak had gone- now its back! can anyone advise what i can do to get rid of it? also, im after a set of decent pads for general use - the ones on are tesco value! can anyone advise? thanks

also - after a 30min ish drive without hard braking the front wheels are hot to the touch so that i cant leave my hand on for long... is this normal?

Sound's like you could have a sticky caliper if they are getting that warm under normal braking....could be worth taking it to your local mot station and asking them to pressure test them on the rolling road thingy, this will tell you if one brake is sticking... regarding pad's i have all way's bought lockheed, as i don't race aroung too much and they give good feel compared to some other's
