how hard would it be to put the 16v lump in my 8v? and what would i need?

hi and welcome
looks like you need to get a project thread set up

Reasonably tricky as you'd have to swap lots of stuff. The 16v uses a different injection system to the PB engine 8v among other stuff. Do a search for 16v conversion and similar stuff, i'm sure there are more details about it somewhere.
You could try either 2.0L bottom end swap, or drop the whole Mk3 8v Gti engine in if you wanted to keep it cheap and simple.

If you chose the mk3 abf 16v engine it would be relativly easy as you can use your current injection setup.

cheers for that mate, will leave the 8v in there then. is it just a straight swop for the 2.0l bottom end?
