Title: clocks question
Post by: workhorse '90 8v on 07 January 2004, 13:37
the girlys car still needs new clocks.

how hard/ is it possible to change the mileage ?

i've seen a set with 150k but her car is only on 115k
is it possible to rewind it?

I would like to know myself.

I dont think you are allowed to rewind clocks or I would be doing it :P

You get the milage recorded on both clocks so that it doesnt effect the original milage.

It is not dificult to adjust the mileage and I cant see why it would be illegal if you were changing the clocks to match the correct mileage of the vehicle after all you are not changing the history of the car, just the clocks !!

hi-speed drill in the back of the clocks or on the end of the speedo cable- that way the digits are still properly alligned

just leave it running go for a cup of tea - check occasionally

its only illegal if you show less miles than are on the car

I know you can wind a clock on with this method.  But can you rewind it??

Are there no little things to stop the clocks being clocked?!

it aint possible to rewind it unless you take the clocks apart and move the digits yourself

otherwise technically driving in reverse would knock miles off your car!!

Thx mate, this is the car that cost me ?500  :-*

The wheels are O.Z Super turismo's although I feel the previous owner had a kerb fetish  :-[

Oh and to let you know, the clocks on the mark 2 can be dismantled and put forwards or back quite easily with a normal drill, using a simple method. You can take them apart and move the clocks individually I assume but they will then be out of line and would be a lot of hastle to put back together.

good point mate!  I guess thats why high miles clocks go for much less..

takin them apart sounds like a pain in the a$$ , and the didgits not lined usually shouts "CLOCKED!!" in the buyers mind...

They are easy to take apart and put back togother, also easy to put forward or back and keep the digits straight. :)

unfortunately very illegal...

your clocks would be saying that the car had done 78k when actually it had done 160k....

you can wind the miles off with a drill, but you'll have to hold it on there. remove everything from the back of the speedo. this includes totally stripping down the clocks btw. take off the bit that the cable attaches to. this cunningly stops miles coming off when you reverse. you then should see teh cogs that count. by getting a pinion from an old RC car on your drill you should be able to wind them off. just remember to undo the face else the neddle might snap. I havent' actually tried this yet, but I'm pretty sure that's how it's done. I have a broken apart clock so if anyone wants me to I'll try it.

either that or remove the pin and set whatever miles you want on the clock.
