Title: Speakers
Post by: madmuppets on 15 May 2003, 17:52
We have got the original VW speakers in the car. Is it worth upgrading these speakers to say, JBL`s. I am a big fan of JBL`s, we had them in our previous car and thought they were spankingly good.

We have a Kenwood CD unit as the source.

Just wandering if change of speakers would improve.

Ive changed my standard front speakers for infinity kappa components and it sounds 10 times better. I am running them off an alpine v10 amp tho which also helps. VW do a set of upgrade speakers for the mk3 aswell. Not sure they'll sound alot different but they'll handle a bit more power.

Dont bother with upgrading with VW speakers, it is worth paying for better ones.  You will need 17cm ones to fit in front and rear

Got a mk IV, GTI 180 with leather (May 2003).

How do i upgrade the speakers in the front doors?
Do i have to take off the whole door panel?
If so, are there screws on the underside of the panel and only on the side that meets the door hinge?

I thought i'd read that there where some screws in the door handle. If so then i can't see or feel them as my handle has wood covering it!

Oh, and what size speaker fits, 17cm ones? Do i need a spacer or can i just fit the new infinity or JBL speakers?

Thanks for any help.
Paul
