On Jet engines there are magnetic plugs in the oil system but they are used as a monitor for wear metals. It could be a good idea but at the same time how much wear metals is it going to take out of the oil? is it going to remove enough to be worth it? If these are a great idea why haven't the filter manufacturers built magnets into the filter? I don't know I am kinds stuck in the middle here. lol. Any metal bits big enough for the magnet to catch i would think the filter would catch. :)

......yeah, theory sounds good, but how much crap really does pass out of the filter to warrant such a device?
Maybe its just another gadget to get for your beloved car for an extra feeling of well being??

I doubt that much crap passes through the filter that would stick to the magnet. I don't think I'll buy one. :)

How about a magnetic sump plug?

Stick a magnet on the outside and remove it when you change the filter. Most metal that may wear is non magnetic, big ends, cam bearings in the head, brass small ends, etc. Anyone that needs a magnet to pick up metalic particals from the oil will need a new engine soon ;).
