I'm looking to lower my mk3 golf, but i was wondering a) if i need both shocks and springs and b) what kind of springs are best to get in order not to sacrafice any ride pleasures.
I'm only looking to lower it around 40mm so the wheels fit up in the arch a bit better, and looking at any advice or any past experiences you have had.

Best spring's are eibach..little more expensive than most but you will keep some ride quality, as for shocker's I would replace them when fitting lowering spring's and if they have done 80000 miles they will be past there best anyway. best one's to go for (as many people on here would agree) is boge turbogas or sachs advantage, these were eibach's partner when they developed there spring's and are vw's main supplier's as o.e....

well i have to say i'm very lucky because my golf has only done 65000 miles and i only paid £1100 for it off an old woman so i've hopefully got a lot of time to squeeze out of it yet.
