Had a new recon gearbox put in my VR6 on Monday, got it back and it is far quicker than it ever was before (especially in 2nd ), but even more astonishing, I got 40.1mpg  out of it on a really good run on Wednesday!!
-
Cool! How much that set you back dude if ya don't mind me asking?
I need a new box for my valver i think :undecided:
-
£550, mate. That included towing 20 miles, VAT, a 2 year/24000 mile warranty and all labour etc. Not a bad price really!!!
-
Hey Spanky, 40+ mpg in a VR6 ! You must be pushing it around !
-
I know, 40mpg out of a VR6 is    !!! On that run I was driving at a steady 60 and also gave it some on/off roundabouts, and I know that the MFA is working properly, I've calculated it and it's just about spot on. TBH I normally get between 32 & 37mpg on a good run, but it never really drops below 23mpg even in traffic. If it didn't go like a VR6, I'd swear that it had a 2litre 8v lump in it
-
So its the same box just recond?
-
Yep, or at least that is what I was told, but it really is alot quicker , but I ONLY  got 38.2mpg last night on the same run I got 40mpg last week (more traffic)!!!
-
Must have used some supa special teflon grease!

Don't you be lying about this better mpg Spanky because I'm sure you were pedalling when I saw you this morning !  I might need some pedals in my Rallye soon because I'm sure everytime I get in and out of it it's gone down a 1/4 of a tank !
-
I doubt my legs could pedal a big lumbering mk3 like my VR ! But I know what you mean, Gibby, about fuel disappearing from your car. I think I used to get visits from the petrol gnomes on a night time!!, since the new 'box they have calmed down a bit. They must be attacking your Rallye now instead!!!
-
They must have jumped across when the traffics slow through Saltaire ! Little b'stards !

Yep I reckon they did!!     What mpg do you get from the Rallye?

I've no idea as the MFA is in KM's and it's not worked out like the MPH ones, so it doesn't say you get 20 KM's per gallon it's worked out some other strange way and as the manual is in German I can't work it out ! : laugh:
I'm guessing about 20 odd though.
-
Probably in Km per litre so youve got two calculations to do!
Spanky - that new box must have different ratios in plus a higher diff ratio.
Go check it on a motorway and see what speed you get at a set rpm.

Ohh, I forgot that rallyes are all km, litres etc.
I'll give it a good run on a motorway soon, to scope out the revs to speed ratio!

Spanky: what would the price of been with out labour "just the box recond" i f ya don't mind me asking
-
I didn't get a quote for just the recon box, as I have a mate that has done that before and told he had a warranty with the new box, but when it went wrong and he tried to do something about it he was told "It was put in the car by someone else, so it's nothing to do with us, they must have caused the damage!".
I should imagine it would be quite a bit cheaper for just the recon unit, as there will be a few hours in putting in a gearbox!
