I'm looking to get a new set of alloys for my mk3 gti, but don't know which size to go for. Any advice would be helpful, also how much should i lower it by?
Cheers

17's and -40mm looks great.
18's would look extreme i reackon, but whatever floats ya boat. ( no mk3 pun intended  )

18's are to big! You would have to go down to 35 profile and that silly!
Stick to 17's and 40 profile.

agreed. 17's I really like the audi competitions on a mk3.

up until very recently i hav 17's, 40 profile tyres and a 40mil drop. Did suit the car well!

I saw one the other day on 18"'s and it looked ridiculous, Even a little comical to be honest.
17" all day long IMHO. Though i live in sheffield like monkeyalan and the roads are horrific and mines lowered 40mm Its a right pain in the arse(literaly)somedays, especialy if you have a hangover in the morning!! LOL!!
