Title: I'm going back to a golf!
Post by: Phil_ZSN on 30 September 2006, 10:56
Hi all,

I used to own a mk4 1.8t  a few years ago, but sold it due to a change of jobs so i've not posted on here for about 2 years!

however i've decided I want a mk4 again! but this time a TDI due to a 90 mile M25/M3 journey to work!!

I had my old gti chipped by Revo upto about 220bhp (plus a few other mods) and i LOVED it,  will  a standard remap on a 110 or 115bhp tdi give me the same kinda smiles?    Also will i see better or worse MPG?

another question I have is with the Air Con, is this fitted as standard to the TDI or is it an optional extra...i know climate control became standard after a while but i'm going to be looking at pre 2000 cars

ta

Hiya m8,

I bought a gt tdi 130 back in July (went for diesel for very similar reasons m25/m3 to get to work) and I love it. It is completely standard and still makes me smile. I almost always get between 60-65mpg on my journeys unless they are around town in which case it drops down a bit but still very good fuel economy.

My last 2 or 3 tanks I have done more than 600 miles and that is before the warning light comes on. I haven't had it remapped so can't comment on that side of things but as standard I think it is a brilliant car.

air con is dependent on the model you go for.  I think it was standard on SE and above.  Best model to go for is the GT model as its basically the same spec as the GTI models.

Pre 2000 I don't think you get 115 as that is the later PD engine (introduced circa 2001).

if pre 2000 go for the 110 GT TDI; you can pick them up for aorund 3-4K.
