Title: MK3 gti 8V problem
Post by: perd999 on 05 January 2004, 18:58
ive got an mk3 gti 8v , and my problem is quite similar to others with golf gti mk3's, is that when accelerating the car kind of judders and there is a loud noise like mis firing going on, it only happens when the car has warmed up. Many of you have said about this relay, with the number 30 on it, i took out thi srelay and nothing happened to the car, it started and reved without it even in, so what is it for. im still going to replace it as it isnt taht expensive really. i have found a mate whos brother actually works for vw in teh service department so hes coming over aswell to check it out. ill keep you posted.....l.but please could you get back to me with my questions on what the relay does as it was fine without it actually plugged in

Fuel pump and ECU relays are worth changing. Are you sure you got the right relay? the pump shouldn't run at all without the relay in.
Another popular failure is the hall sender on the distributor, or the coil pack.
