For the past few weeks my oil light comes on when driving, it also makes a buzzing noise through my speakers to let me know its on!! It normally happens when the engine is hot although its come on when engine is warm, never come on when cold though. I have checked my oil (do this on a daily basis) and she is not using any oil. I use semi-synth 10-40. I thought it could be the brand of oil as i was using Castrol Magnetec so i changed it to Valvoline and still the little light comes on. This doesnt happen everytime i drive just now and again. Any ideas?

Could be a few things, I had a similar thing happen on my valver. I changed the oil pump & also found there was all sorts of crap floating about in the sump. Could equally be a duff sender. If I were you I'd change both of them first, if that don't cure it whip the sump off.

id change both senders on the oil filter housing

sorry this is not really helping coz i didnt know the coz but my valver done this for abt 6 weeks then just stopped hasnt done it now for abt a year ha maybe i burnt out the buzzer!!!!!

My jetta does it, even after a new oil pump and a new sump. Only does it when rev's are low though, like when i stupidly used to try pulling out of junctions in 4th (by accident..)

Hi Paul, good to see you still have the 16v, I'm missing mine badly......... Turns out I could have kept it cos the rental place we ended up with has a double garage..
The buzzer is actually a small module behind the clocks, it shouldn't be coming through the speakers....
Low oil pressure at temperature can indicate wear in the crankshaft/camshaft bearings on high mileage engines, its not the end of the world though, you could try using a 15/50 oil with a genuine VW filter. A 50 is thicker than a 40 at engine running temp and may just help keep the pressure up especially at low rpm. Also if you've had that cold start injector pumping in xs fuel that can get past the rings and thin the oil. Its a cheap thing to try before you start getting into the heavy stuff. Regards, J

mmmm wonder where i've seen this b4!
My 16v done it from the day i bought it, thought it was low oil pressure etc, then after 2 weeks of its buzzing at low revs the bottom end blows next minute pistons hitting the head and loads of metal floating round in the sump! once the sump came off and looked at my oil pump a nice blocked gauze! suppose it was a good thing in a way cause now i have a passat 2.0 16v bottom end ready to go in with my KR head ;) but be sure to check your pump ;)
