Hi guys i'm new to this forum, i'm currently driving a 1.3 mk2 which i absolutley love, but i feel i need something with a bit more power  I was thinking of getting a nice big 16v, can anyone tell me will this feel much different to the 1.3? obviously its gonna be faster but will it feel much different to drive? thanks a lot Jenson

It will feel completely different. Cornering, braking, acceleration will all be a hell of a lot better on the 16v. I'm guessing it's got about 80bhp more than the 1.3 so that should tell you something about it.
Try and find someone local with a 16v that can take yo out in it so you can find out first hand how different it is.

it will feel like a completly different car to drive

16v's come with a smile warning!

I would suggest finding a decent GTI be it 8v or 16v would be of more importance than how many valves it had.
(IMHO)

it will be the best thing you have ever bought!!
if you have your heart set on a 16v then get exactly that!

I have an excellent condition 1990 8v GTI for sale with only 78,000 miles on the clock.....

Pity i live in Ireland......
-
what i also found is the 16v is a nicer drive than the 8v! all tho my 8v was a hell of a lt more fun! full of torque and fast as hell to 60 but was tuned by AmD. but gotta say 16v was deffo the best buy

if you live in Ireland. u will need to probably go to mainland to get a good 16v
occasionally they do come up in N.Ireland but are very hard/expensive to find in the south. i sold my old one to a fella in the south for just under £1K and it was in the autotrader down there next week for 2.5k euro's

If its a 16V you really want then be prepared to look at a lot but you will find one its just a case of waiting for the one thats for you, good luck

I have had both 8v and a 16v gti, both are good but if I was you I would start off with the 8v which is a hell of alot cheaper to fuel, and the insurance is more reasonable. The 8v I had rally cam, dtm zorst, k&n and would still pull in around 35 mpg whereas my 16v is doing around 20 mpg but it does put out 167bhp and is sh!t loads of fun. But when you do get one leave it as a sleeper.
