Hi all,
Looking for some advice regarding uprating front brakes on mk1 GTI 16v i'm building.
Already got 16v servo, 22mm master cylinder, goodridge hoses and 16v rear disc setup.
Looking at fitting either late 16v 256mm discs and calipers - having trouble finding the caliper carriers i need for this.
Or spacing out my existing calipers to fit larger discs, had a look at the TSR kit for this.
The TSR kit is way too much money, but i was thinking of having a go a at making some spacer brackets myself, wondered if anyone had any experience on this. What discs fit etc?
What brakes are you guys all running?

Hi,
Unless you know about metal structure and strenghts etc, get some pucka made brackets, you are trying to stop nearly a ton of metal, so the metal has to be right... I hear brakes don't work so well when they have nothing holding them into place.
I think your best bet is to look on the classified adds here and the auction sites for the right spacers. TSR are very expensive, but the do know what they are on about, there are other places though, try typing into google and see what happens.
Cheers

Thanks for the response kram,
Sound advice regarding messing with brakes. Got a bit of experience with metal so i'm not ruling out making my own spacers (skant regard for personal safety )
I'm really looking for some opinions/ advice regarding what brakes people are running, what other setups anyone got? I hear certain volvo 2 pot calipers can be used?
Thanks for the google suggestion - really useful .
