buying a cat D motor?

I have a decision to make, a very nice, newish car but has been classed as a cat d, would you buy it? Needs jigging apparently, but can't be that major if it is classed as a cat D.

I have someone who can jig it for me, but what would you do?

no problem! get it done... its how the car stands to you!

i thnk thatif the work that needs doing isn't a problem to you then do it.. some cat D cars are cheaper.. but i do thiink thats a bit of a myth.. both my cars have been cat D

if the repair is easy and inexpensive and the person doing the repair is capable and knows what they are doing I'd go for it.

The only sticking point you may have is when you come to sell it but seeing as you're keeping it long term it shouldn't have an adverse on its value.  As long as you have receipts for the proof of work carried out and show the person whats been done it really shouldn't pose too much of a problem.

The biggest advantage is you pick up a cheap motor

as said if the person you know that can jig it is capable then go for it, should turn out to be a bargain. What is the said car?

if it need jigging it may never be right and it will make weak spots in the structure and if you ever have a accident it may just disintigrate

just dont crash buddy

Resale values, and potential risk if you had a whack. If it's only you driving the car, no kids, passengers etc, then you could justify it I guess.

Like you said if it was really bad they wouldnt have classed it at D , if your goin to have a decent amount of cash gettin it n having the work done id go for it , my brothers just finished a cat c Fiesta zetec S , he works in a body shop so for a 51 reg car its cost him 1100 quid . ya cant go wrong sometimes

I'll probably get laughed at here ..... but I'm sure I heard on the grape vine that if a car has been written off and paid out on it'll not happen a second time ?!?! So should a class D get any damage there's no chance of a claim ?!?

Any truth in that ... ???

I think the problem with write offs is when they don't get repaired properly - if you're getting the work done yourself you'll be making sure its done right and there shouldn't be a problem, its not your real car anyway is it

Probably worth taking lots & lots of pics of the repairs though - it might help selling it on later, for a profit if your lucky

Cat D car's are not subject to a VIC check anyhow, (apparently) but you do have to inform the HPI people and AA etc.

Will let you know what happens.

my first two cars were ex write offs. As long as you trust the person who has done the work it should be fine. what you lookin at anyway buddy?
