Title: 17 inch steel wheels and winter tyres

Only had my GTI a week and already thinking its gonna be a long term "keeper".

And as its on 18s i would rather not use them through the winter, so I thought about getting some 17 inch steelies and fitting Vredestein Wintrac xtreme 225/45 R17 94V XL Rim-protection (Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£106.40 + fitting from mytyre.co.uk)

I have not been able to find any VW 17 inch steels in this size, anyone know if they do `em?

Aslo, if i cant get 17 inch steels, could i go to 16s and a 225/50 r16?
