Title: My Golf thinks it's a kangaroo!!!
Post by: OakeyDoak16v on 23 September 2006, 23:33
Hello there.
My Mk2 8V has a habit of what feels like the engine rocking when driving between 60 - 75 mph. Beyond such speeds it's great and accelerates like a good un. It runs really smoothly at any other speed and sounds terrific. I'm thinking it may be the front engine mount needs replacing, anyone any ideas??
Cheers

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated as mine does the same!  At motorway speeds it feels almost like something is rocking back and forth! Madness.

Whats your front engine mount like? Is it the origonal one like mine. I think they probably wear out after a while. Wonder if theres any upgraded mount you can get.

I checked mine and they seemed alright. Will prob change them anyway.

Do a search on this forum for engine mounts, there are lots of alternatives!

Do this test.. open the bonnet, get a mate to watch the front engine mount while your sitting in the car, with the engine running, handbrake firmly applied, get the car "rocking" by bringing the clutch up to the biting point over, and over again.. I f your mate says it looks like the engine is trying to leap out, then you probably need a new front engine mounting     If your worried about the clutch biting point bit, have a practice before you use your mate!

I would check your engine mounts first but, if it came to replacing the MAF you would change the whole thing.
