Title: Car not starting - Fuse box
Post by: danhock on 05 January 2004, 10:32
My golf won't start  :( :(

It turns over and i get a spark so it must be fuel related... Confirmed this by checking taking the fuel filter off and no fuel was coming from the tank..

Looks like the pump is near the offside rear wheel, is that correct... Its making no noise atall....

Thought i'd check the fuses and fuse 5 is burnt out completely and i cant get it out!!!
Is this for the fuel pump??

Dan

Mine is a mk2 as opposed to a cabrio. Fuse 5 on mine is windscreen wipers. May be able to grab ahold of the fuse with a pair of needle nose pliers and wiggle it about and try pulling it out with a little bit of force. if it hasn't been out for a while it could have a touch of corrosion on it holding it in place or when it blew the added heat may have stuck it to the socket.  :)

I may stand corrected though mate. I wish my bently's manual showed the fuser panel for a cabrio. In mine for some reason under the 85-89 jetta fuse relay panel I have written fuel pump in pencil and a line going to fuse 5. When i look in the legend it says fuse 5 is the fuel pump.Jetta and cabby aren't the same fuse box are they?

It all kinds of points towards that number 5 is the fuel pump....

Everything else works except the heater rear window but the light on the switch comes on sugesting its ok....

Doesnt anyone have a Mk1 manual??

fuse 5 is definately the fuel pump as i have had the same problems recently and have gone through a lot of 15amp fuses. My pump is shafted or blocked so i'm replacing it.
