Just been looking at ebay, and found this wright up on a sat nav dvd..
The VW SAT/NAV unit has awide format 16:9 6,5" colour screen that gives you full colour maps and driving directions with accompanied voice instructions. On screen menus and capabilities for the optional CD-changer, TV tuner, DVD player, Playstation or other video games. Of course you are able to listen to music with this unit.
Is it possable to play T.V through it??

The standard unit can not play normal DVD's
BUT
YOu can buy an adapter that provides the set with an extra ( AUX ) input.

Thanks for that, but where can i buy it from, and what exactly does it offer??

nick35 - Just got my 2007MY GTI on Monday. I have the DVD SatNav option and as Doc has already stated you can play an external source through the Aux connection via a link in the glovebox. I haven't physically checked yet but I think it is a 3.5 jack plug which may be standard fitting with any accessory such as a portable CD or DVD player - will check later today. I'll also see if my own portable DVD player will operate in the car. The DVD SatNav manual gives instructions how to link up the accessory via the unit menu and refers to the lead which is required but does not give any VW part number or say where you can buy it.
I'm sure Doc can advise in due course.

Thanks Cass, as i have been informed by a Ebay power seller my sat-nav being a cd based one, i can not play anything other than CD's on it, dunno how true that is,but thats what i have been told?? iI have spotted this on Ebay

Does this mean if i fit it, all i will need is a DVD player.
Sorry I'm new to this!

Got me there Nick. Too technical by far. Mine is the DVD version so I am presuming that I can play DVD's via Aux function as per the instruction manual. Off to a retirement do this afternoon, good few beers I imagine ! so tomorrow at earliest before I can check out my car.

ive got the vw fitted sat nav installed on my gti, may 05 plate, which will only take cd roms and not dvd roms for playing dvds on it, whether the latest gti sat nav on current 56 plates have changed??
Ive looked for the aux jack socket in the glovebox and cant find it, the model of my sat nav is model MFD2 also has 6 disc changer under arm rest. it has aux option in sat nav but can anyone tell me where exactly this socket is so i can plug an ipod in or does it have to be installed by dealer as an optional extra. PLease excuse me guys if im thick, only had the car 3 days so still finding my feet with it and getting over the shock of seeing the fuel gauge phyiscally drop before my very eyes every time i feel the need to stretch my toes!. cheers in advance peeps

Hi folks - have finally examined my MY2007 GTI with DVD SatNav and iPod option in the front centre armrest (in preference to a CD multichanger) and it DOES NOT have an AUX-in-socket in the front passenger glovebox. The VW handbook booklet, 3.1 Controls and Equipment - page 88, refers to the AUX-in-socket for connecting an external audio source and states that this optional equipment - "The multi-media socket is used to operate external audio sources via the factory-fitted system using a special adaptor cable." It goes on to say that the adaptor cable "has to fit into the cinch sockets (3.5mm stereo) at one end and into your audio source at the other. It can be purchased in a specialist shop."
The VW handbook booklet, 3.4 MFD DVD - page 45, refers to External Units - Calling up external units and gives instructions for opening the AUX main menu and selecting either an AV or AUX external source such as a DVD player for picture and sound - A+V (Audio and Video source), or Audio only or Off.
But where and how to connect up an AUX source in the first place ?
Seems like this is something for the Doc to enlighten us all about.
