Hi All
As of this weekend I'm now the proud owner of a pearl black DSG and so of course have a number of questions I was hoping some of you longer term owners might be able to help me with. I've been looking through the forum for the last two weeks prior to my purchase and found loads of useful info that helped when choosing a car. I hope I can contribute back to the site whilst I have mine. Mine is an 05 which the last owner must have loved as it is immaculate. Its quite a well stocked car with the DSG, leather, 18 inch rims, arm rest CD, cruise control, parking assist, mfsw, heated seats, auto wipers, auto lights and even a detachable towbar! Quite a bit more comfortable 54 S2000 that I traded in for it - must be a sign of getting older!
Anyhow, enough of the waffling, some of my initial questions are as follows:
1. I'm pretty sure I don't have a highline computer as I cannot get to any other functions than just the temp and miles of fuel left but my gear numbers are along the bottom - is there anyway of confirming for sure?
2. I would love the integrated sat nav and some of the threads suggest this is an easy plug and play but does this add the compass etc to the dash display or does this depend on which computer is fitted?
3. Has anyone tried the parrot bluetooth car kits? I think the Nokia one in Doc's install looks great but I would quite like to see who is calling and be able to leave the phone in the glove box. Also, is there a vw bluetooth option I can use with the mfsw?
4. I had an ipod kit in my S2000 and it seems that dealers will fit similar in the glovebox for £150 - will this mean I can still use the cd stacker in the arm rest as well?
5. Do you know what number I call to let VW know I am the new owner for warranty and recalls etc?
Thanks very much in advance for any responses and look forward to inputting into the forum on a regular basis.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hello and welcome
1) you can tell if you have a highline if the screen is full height of the clocks. if it is only half display then you have the midline computer.
Edit - see this link for an idea http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=43181.0
2) it will be plug and play but to have the directions on the dash you'd need the highline computer
3) there is no VW bluetooth option. I personally don't have the PArrot kit but have been looking into it as it has very good feedback
4) if you have an iPod then you lose the CD changer IK'm afraid as they work off the same port in the headunit. though there has been talk about a swtiching module being avialable allowing you to have both. Details are sketchy though
5) www.volkswagen.co.uk and look for Contact Us - but i would have thought you could pop into your local dealer and get them to sort it out for you.
Hope those answers are of some help

Hi dalgleish00!! Glad to hear that you are pleased with your Golf, they really are excellent cars.
I have an 06 GTI with the Parrot Bluetooth fitted and it really is excellent. Like you say its good that you can put your phone in the glovebox or leave it in your pocket etc....ÂÂÂ
You get the added benefit of voice activated dialling on it, as well as having all your phone book at the turn of a knob!
The only drawback is that the display unit is mounted on a bracket and you need to un-screw it if you want to remove the unit which people obviously don't do, which in turn makes it vulnerable for some thieving b*****d. Certainly don't want to have a side window replaced, try getting a blue tinted one, not easy!!!
On the telephone number issue, try 0800 711 811
Hope you enjoy your new motor!

Hi you asked...
1. I'm pretty sure I don't have a highline computer as I cannot get to any other functions than just the temp and miles of fuel left but my gear numbers are along the bottom - is there anyway of confirming for sure?
It is NOT the highline
2. I would love the integrated sat nav and some of the threads suggest this is an easy plug and play but does this add the compass etc to the dash display or does this depend on which computer is fitted?
Only if you have the high line and you don't - soz
3. Has anyone tried the parrot bluetooth car kits? I think the Nokia one in Doc's install looks great but I would quite like to see who is calling and be able to leave the phone in the glove box. Also, is there a vw bluetooth option I can use with the mfsw?
There ok - for best quality get the nokia 616 CAR KIT with the optional handset as fitted to my caddy van - its the nuts
4. I had an ipod kit in my S2000 and it seems that dealers will fit similar in the glovebox for £150 - will this mean I can still use the cd stacker in the arm rest as well?
They can fit it but you will loose your cd changer
5. Do you know what number I call to let VW know I am the new owner for warranty and recalls etc?
No

Cool, thanks all for the info. Will do a bit more research on the bluetooth options before going ahead. Definitely going for the ipod as not a problem if CD will not work.
Doc, is it even possible to get the highline installed? Seems such a shame that it wasn't spec'd as looks very handy indeed!
Cheers

Yes but you will need VW suplied and fitted brand new clocks for them to work

hmmm... expensive I guess for just that. Will make do for now! Thanks for the help.

I'm going to get the parrot ck3100 kit fitted to my MK5, does anyone have any good ideas or advice about where to put the display?

Hi 2007GTI
I ended up not going for the parrot and got a TomTom710 instead as this has handsfree fiunctionality.
That said, it is proving a bit hard for people on the other end of the line to hear me so I may go for a parrot eventually.
I think there are two considerations on where to put it: 1) is it easy for you to see and 2) is it easy for theives to see. If you can find a combination of the two then that would be great. Maybe down just under the centre console air con controls above the gear lever?
Keep me posted on what you decide and how good it is as would be v interested.
