Hi,
Im getting a mk golf 1.6 16v soon and i would like to find out whether its really worth buying an induction kit for it? ..i know they sound a bit more beefy but will my hp increase that much? Also do you think its worth purchasing a new panel filter for it when i get it, ive seen the K n N ones and they look good, would the two together work even better i would guess so because the air coming in would be more 'crisper'??
any thoughts..?
Thanks.

Forget it, drill the lower half of the airbox and get a k&n panel filter

Slick did you reply? lol
and you think its just worth stick filter in then will this gimme the beefy sound though?
Thanks.

Slick was just letting you know that this topic has been covered loads and a search of this or the Mk2 section should bring up lots of threads about people asking the same question!
Short answer - The general consensus is that a panel filter with a drilled airbox (search for drilling instructions) will give you the best compromise of performance/noise. The induction kit will be a bit louder but MAY suffer as it drags in lots of HOT air from the engine bay.
Edit: Forgot the title of the topic! - Any performance increase will be neglible on a standard engine.
-
performance increase will be nil, (at least nothing noticable)
sound increase will be noticable, but again will do nothing for the car apart from let people know you have an induction kit
-
Ahh right thanks for that mate. So it is possible to put them both in if i wanted to? i think im just going to stick a paneel filter in and put rest of money towards other area like wheels, ice etc
Thanks
-
just put the panel filter in and do like you say...spend money on wheels etc..
-
cool, i would like my car to sound nice but not too in your face kinda thing so a panel filter should do this ok?
maybe the extra money could go towards a exhaust system.. hehe..
-
Only noticeable increase in performance will be in the mid-range revs not at the top. The panel filter should help to remove the usual flat spot, and increase throttle response.
It does depend on what car, on an 8v gti mid-range increase may not really be noticeable, but it will be noticeable on say a vr6.

Oh right cool, i went to my local mod shop today n should be able to get panel filter and induction kit for about 130..but may just get panel filter, that will cost 50 the car im getting is the 1.6 16v!
Cant wait!!
-
You can't put a panel filter AND an induction kit on! It's a one or the other situation as the induction kit replaces your standard airbox!
Get the panel filter! The induction kit may sound louder (like mine does ) but after a year i can confirm it gives no improvement of power that you can feel really so why bother?
Really i should swap back to my standard airbox, but.. i just can't help my smiles with my window down, low revs, foot to the floor in a tunnel! Personal amusement only you understand, i don't do it look hard!

i remember butcherin a nissan 200sx KnN on my 8V the noise it made n the looks it got were unreal
-
the car im getting is the 1.6 16v!
I don't think it is somehow.

it is cos he's getting a MKIV 1.6 16V. he's been posting in the MKIV section about what car to get:

Thats the 100bhp engine.
-
You mean the 105bhp engine 6

The 8v 1.6 mkIV produces 100bhp, looking at one for the missus tomorrow night.
Was going for the 16v but there are reports that the valve train is proving unreliable. For the sake of 5bhp we are getting her an 8v now instead.
-
Ok, didn't know that one :embarassed:
The 2.0 8v is only 115bhp, not much difference between all of them then.
-
gotta love it when i'm being a skim-reading f**ksock.
-
Hmm yeah thats why im kinda drawn to the induction kit.. i love the 'humming' sound lol jsut dont want it to sound to OTT, liek when your walking through town and you hear this really loud car you turn round and its a granada or something with the driver wearing a burberry cap lol.
yeah im getting the 1.6 16v 105bhp yeah i was suprised when i read about the 2.0 being 115bhp!
Like i said earlier.. i think? i can get the induction kit for 80quid and the panel filter for 50 im tempted to go with the induction kit but hmm... im not sure.. :undecided:
-
I'd say get the bmc cda this should increse the performance and give you better sound. It won't even suck in hot air cos it's sealed like a airbox.
-
bmc cda? whats that short for? sorry for being picky but im new to most of this!
Thanks,
