I actually thought about selling my car. Then got really upset at the thought of saying goodbye to it!
-
Well that was a silly thing to think about wasn't it...
You've only just had the engine done haven't you? It'll bring the smile back to your face when you can give a bit of stick...more than 3.5k aswell...
-
Yeah I know! I am now very cross with myself for even thinking about it! Its just I get so annoyed at not being able to drive it properly - by that I mean on a clear road rather than in f*cking traffic jams all the time. 70% of my 16mile journey to work is spent queuing! It f*cks me right off! I can't enjoy driving it anymore as I'm constantly worrying about it overheating in traffic.
-
My old engine died because it overheated. I know what you mean about worrying in traffic. I couldn't keep my eye off the temp for ages afterwards. I still get a bit edgy now but after nearly 5k miles alls still well
Just stick with it, you'll stop worrying when it's gone a while without playing up
-
Tell you what if its that bad ill swap you for my mars red mk1 and a fully working rover 400

I'd say more understandable than unthinkable Gem with all the probs that you keep having. If you want me to be honest, and I love your enthusiasm, but I do think there needs to come a time where you need to seriously think about where you want to go with this one. :undecided:
If anyone on here needs some good luck and fortune to go with their enthusiasm then I reckon it needs to be you. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Edit: You gotta laugh at this though.

Naughty!
Don't worry i've been there too  Kicked myself though for even considering it (and so did my girlfriend), she loves my car more than me
-
I can't believe it. I swear my car can read my mind, came out of work and it was looking really sorry for itself, THEN... After only 5 mins of driving, the left clock stopped working. So no mileage and no speed! Had to guess my speed when going past all the speed cameras!! Anyone know what could have happened and is it an easy fix? She did it on purpose. She hates me
-
Ouch
That could be a few different things. Might be that the speedo drive is knackered in the gearbox, the cable may have snapped or it might have popped off the back of the clocks. I guess the worst it could be is the actual clocks being knackered.
Might be worth posting something in the mk1 section about it as I'm not sure if there's much difference between them and a mk2. :undecided:
-
Poor thing , ive been through troubles with cars before and stick with it , itll reward ya eventually , as for the clocks if it gets really bad i could loan ya the clocks outa mine im after a TT dash anyways could be an anwer dependin whats up with yours
-
Its wierd you should mention the gearbox as I'm now worried that needs rebuilding (if thats what you call it?). Had clutch and gear linkage replaced a few weeks ago, but today I was having trouble getting my car into gear. Felt like I was forcing it.
-
They might not have re-alinged the linkage properly. If you've had that done to it then take it back and ask them to check it out. Shouldn't be causing any problems.
-
When ya had the clutch done did they top up the gearbox oil that sometimes causes a "snickety" change
-
basically an easy fix on both accounts, the gear changes will just need the linkages realigning properly.
The lack of speedo and milage is the cable snapping. ( a tell tale sign it is going is if it was a bit bouncy around the speedo before it stopped working ) a cable is about £12 and to fix it is a peice of the proverbial, you or your fella should be able to do it, if not then gibby should. I would say i would come and help on a visit to gibby land, but lack of a car atm is proving difficult.
As for selling the car, well aye it's always something in the back of my mind, being without it now though makes me realise just how much i miss it.
You and your car will be fine soon enough gem
-
I doubt they changed the gearbox oil if they didnt change the spark plugs on the rebuild. I don't want to go back there. I'm taking it to another garage this saturday about fuel pump but to be honest I think thats the least of my worries.
-
Itll all be right in the end if we wanted a perfect heartless car to do the a-b in we`d all have euroboxes
-
my god gem you really don't have any luck do you! i'm inclined to agree with gibby, you might have to take a step back and assess what you really want/need. its a pain in the ass but sometimes you need to do what your head says.............
but stick with it for a while and good luck with it all.
-
Where do I look for the speedo cable? I want to try and see for myself whats happened. I'll never learn otherwise. Cheers guys
-
Have you tried giving the dash a whack? might sound funny but its worked for me a few times :undecided: maybe the clocks get a bit stuck or something, not a hard whack, just the sort you give to a dying telly
gimmie 5 for the speedo cable location, photobuckets messing
-
It's the one with the red lines going to it in this one ( :undecided: why didn't I just leave it like that!!!)
