I have been parking the new MK5 outside my flat and its on a bus route and every so often a bus rumbles past and sets the alarm off. Spoke to stealer and they said it must be a fault. I enquired as to whether theres a sensitivity setting and I was told no.
The exact same thing used to happen on my mates Mk4, parked in the same place, so I'm not too bothered, its just annoying.
Thoughts anyone?

sit in the car, key out of the ignition and lock yourself in via the remote. Then flap your arms around. You'll soon hear what it sounds like!!

took it to the stealer, they couldn't find any fault.
However I did have anti highjack turned on so the doors lock above 10MPH.

I wrote a letter to VW in Milton Keynes (not easy to find their address) and copied the dealer I brought the car, which isn't that one I took it to.
I got a reply from the dealer I brought the car from and he said there IS a sensetivty setting on the alarm and the dealer I took it too obviosuly should of known this!!!
I'll await VW's response.

UPDATE:
VW Customer Care called to say they agreed with the the dealer I brought it from and said it was relatively easy to have the alarm sensors turned down. However the one dealer they offered to call on my behalf wanted paying for the work and VW HQ wouldn't do anything to set it up for free. So I called 2 two other dealers, one said that it would be about 2 hours work and wanted paying and another said they would do it for free but wanted the car all day, very inconvenient!
So I was stuck between a rock and hard place, and didn't really want to drive the long way back to where I brought it, for 10 mins work. In the end the dealer VW contacted took pity on me and have decided to do the work for free! Hooray!

UPDATE:
I took it to the stealer after they assured me they said they knew what to do. However after pissing around for 2 hours, it turns out that they, "couldn't get into the ultrasonics part of the alarm". In other words, the whole reason for going was so they could turn down the ultrasonic sensors, but they didn't know how.
In fairness they did say that there could be a fault and are sending the results to VW.
But if there is a fault, it isn't coming up on the diagnostics system!
So I'm back to square one.

UPDATE:
Finally the stealer got the info from VW HQ and has apparently turned the ultrasonic sensors down to the lowest setting.
Lets hope the buses no longer set it off!

After a few months, I can confirm the buses are no longer setting the alarm off!
