Hi guys,
This is the second part of an on-going saga!
I manged to get my Blaupunkt Essen to work in my Mark 2 Jetta after buying an ISO adapter - thanks to a couple of you guys's suggestions!
The thing is, now the illumination won't go out on the headunit at all - whether the key is in the ignition or not.
I have just noticed that the exisiting car loom is like this:
live not used power antenae [i think - yellow and white?]
earth illumination not used
and the new iso adapter feeds an ignition live line AND a constant 12v battery live into the live on the loom? i have also [stupidly!] cut the illumination wire to see if that did anything. it did not.
Please, if you can, help me. I'm getting remarkably down about this! :undecided:
Cheers,
Si.

Can anyone help me at all?!

The yellow/white or orange wire is the illumination wire on an iso block have you wired that to a permanent live by any chance? the blue white is your electric ariel wire. hth
-
a lot of stereo's also have built on bullit connections on both yellow and red wires, just unplug connections and plug the red into the yellow, n yellow into red, this shud change the ign live and permo live around, thus sorting it out....
-
Monza - I have severed the orange illumination wire on the iso adpater - so it can't be that.
Hardcor3 - this AUotleads loom doesn't have th option to do this unfortunately.
So you're saying that the blue/white on the car iso is switched eh?
-
Blue white puts out 12v when the HU is on, try swapping the red and yellow wires over on the plug if you can like Hardcor3 says that may well sort it out. So red to ign live and yellow to battery if both are into one feed the hu will always be on and Blaupunkts do tend to stay lit up when off, you might need to run an ignition wire to it as they aren't always there on the existing loom :)
(http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/Wiring_files/audio_wiring.jpg) might help as well :)
-
basically you need to swap the live and ignition live around, or you have both the ignition live and live, to the same permenent live, thus resulting in the stereo not turning off right, i have both my lives on my caddy wired to a permenant live as it has no ign live there, so i have to take the face off the stereo all the time, or that would stay illuminated all the time.....
-
Right-o. I can't swap any wires as the iso won't allow - can't pull them out.
After using the adapter loom -
The permament battery live on the car iso matches up with the switched live on the headunit.
The earth is fine and matches up with earth on the head unit.
The blue and white [switched ignition live??] on the car iso matched up with the now severed illumination on the headunit.
In addition to this, the manual explains that the permanent live from the battery should be in position slot 4 on the iso plug going into the headunit. there is a yellow wire split from the red wire on the headunit loom going to this position - so it appears then that I only have a battery live going from car iso loom to both iginition and permanent on the head unit!
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
The adapter loom has fecked things right up here hasn't it?
-
Yup sounds like it! you could buy a multimeter and a crimping set take it back to the basic car loom then cut and join the wires onto the iso block like it says in that pic and you should be away :)
-
I'm going to Argos right-now to pick up an electricians tool kit! :nerd:
We'll see if things start to take a turn for the better then won't we eh?! EH??!?! EEEHHH?!?! Bwah hah hah!!!
Sorry. A little carried away.
Thanks for your help mate - I'll keep you posted!
-
No worries, good luck and be careful with the sparky bits!!
-
Okay - before I start - do I actually need a switched ignition live? The old headunit only had a permanent live, and earth and one other which I didn't identify?
Also, if I do need one, there ain't one there - so where can I take one from??!
From what I've read too - the blue and grey wire appears to be the dimmer wire? Is this right?
Thanks!
-
Most, if not all, modern h/units need 2 lives, a permanent live and a switched/ignition live, because Mk2 golfs/jettas were never wired with an ignition live you need to eithr run one from the switched part of the fuse box or splice into the ignition switch (position 2).
The additional loom you bought provided a live to the switched part of the circuit by shorting the permanent live to it ie always on.This might be why the illumination wasn't turning off because the stereo wasn't actually switching off.
Either cut the yellow wire on the loom you bought and attach this to a switched live or as previously said remove the front panel every time you leave the car  :undecided:

A HUGE thanks to those that posted!
After all, I just cut the live feed that was going to the switched feed and voila. It works. I've still yet to splice the heater switched live to the head unit in the right place, but it works!!!
Thanks once again guys. You ROCK!!!
Si.
Just gotta wire up some speakers now!!!!

Cool good news :) just make sure your speakers + and - are the same all round and use the piccy for colours :)
