Ok what would you buy if you had the choice of..
A mk4 golf 1.9GT TDI(90bph)
orrr...
A mk4 golf 1.6SE ( not sure what bhp)
What would you say was quickest best performance etc?
Thanks.

The GT TDI was a 110BHP with a 6speed box, and is far more tuneable than the poxy 1.6 16v. AND will have you the wrong side of 100 at 1500rpm in 6th.
If its the 90BHP model then it'll be the non turbo jobber and in my opinion the worst of the diesel bunch, as it's quite knocky and lack lustre.

oh right i see..
So say it was only between the 90bhp n the 1.6 ud go for the 1.6? the 0-60 is like 10.5secs isnt it? Do you know how far you can go as to tuning one?
Thanks.

Not too sure myself, but if you have a look on clubpolo and clublupo they may be able to tell you as the engine is used in the older Polo GTI and the Lupo GTI.
Good luck

Ok then thanks for that mate,
Any more opinions people?

there were two types of diesel TDI and SDI; SDI is the non-turbo job and should be avoided at all costs!
the 90, 100, and 110 all came with 5 speed boxes. it was the later PD engines introduced in circa 2001 that had the 6 speed boxes and came in 115, 130 and 150. i think there was also a 100 option but not sure :undecided:
if it was my chioce id go for the 90bhp diesel option, make sure it is the turbo version mind! the 1.6 is pretty useless as the early ones were only 8V jobs and drank petrol like it was going out of fashion

What do you think of the 1.6 16v? I thought thats what they were? Didnt know they had a 1.6 8v
Thanks,

IIRC, there isn't a Mk4 16v lump in the range - Could be wrong, though.
2.0 8v's are a little sluggish, so the 1.6.....???
If it were me, I'd deffo be looking at the derv out of the 2, as that extra torque from the turbo will be a hell of a lot more fun.
You've really got to drive them both though, fella.

the 1.4 was a 16V engine as was the later 1.6 engines. The early 1.6's were 8V's though :nerd:

yeah true, im going to get the 1.6 16v now i think. would get a 1.9 diesel but i wont get insured on it something wierd to do with motortrade lol i can have anything upto a 1.6 until im 21 so when im 21 i may invest in a 150bhp tdi
any of you guys know if its worth sticking an induction kit on a 1.6 16v? ive heard your probably just best off fitting a K and N panel filter..i can fit both rite?
Thanks,
