do you have ABS? when both my front sensors packed in the handbrake light stuck on.

If you have ABS the light to the right of the steering wheel should light up when you start the car and go out after a few seconds.

The cap on the brake fluid reservoir may have gone bad (connections, electrical plugs etc). Try giving it all a good clean. It may not be this but it's worth a try!

What model is it? I know the VR6 has a low level brake pad warning light (seperate to the handbrake light). Not sure but other models might have the handbrake light double up as this warning, so check your pads for wear!
